Woman Who Stopped for Chicken Crosses Road Attacks Driver Who Sped By and Killed It

A bizarre road rage incident in Key West, Florida, turned ugly when a woman allegedly attacked another driver with bear mace — all because of a chicken.

According to an arrest report, 38-year-old Cynthia Diaz Sosa stopped at an intersection around 5 p.m. on July 9 to let a chicken cross the road. Another driver, apparently impatient, honked at her before passing and accidentally running over the bird.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office

Enraged by the chicken’s death, Diaz Sosa allegedly decided to “teach [the driver] a lesson,” the report states. She followed the car, eventually blocking the road, getting out of her vehicle, and trying to open the victim’s car door.

As the driver and her passenger tried to keep the door shut, Diaz Sosa allegedly pulled out a can of bear mace and sprayed it directly into the vehicle, hitting both occupants in the face. Medics treated the pair at the scene after the attack left them unable to see, the report adds.

A witness told police they saw Diaz Sosa spray the mace before fleeing southbound in a black sedan. She was later pulled over, arrested, and charged with two counts of aggravated battery and one count of burglary with assault or battery.

The victim told officers she was on her way to pick up her child from daycare at the time of the incident.

Diaz Sosa has pleaded not guilty and was released on a $35,000 bond. She is scheduled to be arraigned on July 24.

Her attorney, Dustin Hunter, told People, “There’s more to the story and we’re looking forward to her day in court.”
