Some people take their love for chocolate to the grave—literally.
Paul Broome, a fun-loving man from Bognor, West Sussex, had one final wish before he passed: to be buried in a Snickers-themed coffin. Known for his quick wit and mischievous sense of humor, Paul often joked about this unusual request. But when his family discovered it written in his will, they knew they had to make it happen.
A Sweet Farewell

Paul’s custom coffin was designed to look like a partially unwrapped Snickers bar, complete with the words “I’m nuts!” boldly displayed on the side—a fitting tribute to his playful personality. It also featured the Crystal Palace FC logo, honoring his deep passion for the football club. Paul, originally from South London, had an extensive collection of over 40 club shirts and cherished match days at Selhurst Park with his brothers.
His funeral was anything but ordinary. The procession passed by his favorite café, where friends, wearing custom tribute T-shirts, clapped and cheered as he made his final journey in the candy-inspired casket.
Ali Leggo, Funeral Arranger at F A Holland (Co-op) Funeralcare in Chichester, said:
“Paul was one of life’s true characters, and his farewell needed to reflect that. His quick wit and humor touched so many people, and the coffin was a fitting tribute to his unique personality.”

A Funeral That Left Everyone Smiling
Paul’s family and friends were overwhelmed with positive reactions from those who attended. Many commented that the personal touches made the service a true celebration of his life.
While most funerals are solemn affairs, Paul’s was a reflection of who he was—a man who never took life too seriously and always found joy in the little things.
And in a world where funerals are often somber, it’s heartwarming to see someone take their sense of humor to the very end.
