In a bizarre case from India, a woman filed a police complaint against her husband after claiming that household chores caused her to lose Instagram followers.
The woman, identified as Nisha, was known for posting two short reels a day on Instagram and had built a loyal following. Things took a turn when her husband, Vijendra, who lives in Noida (Uttar Pradesh), asked her to cut back on social media and help more with housework.

Nisha reduced her time online and focused on domestic tasks like cleaning and washing dishes. But soon after, she noticed she had lost two followers on her account. Frustrated, she blamed her husband, saying that the extra housework left her with no time to make new content.
The argument between the couple intensified, leading Nisha to leave their home and move back in with her parents in Pilkhuwa, a town in the Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh. There, she went to the women’s police station and lodged a formal complaint.
“My followers declined as I was kept busy washing utensils and cleaning of the house by my husband. I didn’t get time to make reels,” she told the police, according to local reports.
Aruna Rai, the Station House Officer at Hapur Mahila Thana, confirmed that a complaint of harassment was filed. The couple were called in for counselling, and Nisha later withdrew the complaint after several sessions.
Although the case has been resolved legally, tensions between the couple remain. Reports say that the two are still living separately. Media also reported that the situation affected Vijendra’s professional life—he reportedly lost his job and is now struggling to find new work, attending interviews at various places.
Both Nisha and Vijendra have declined to speak to the media about the incident.
