In the wake of Hurricane Milton, a family returning to their Florida home was shocked to discover a massive alligator lurking in their kitchen. Their house, which had been flooded due to the hurricane, became an unexpected refuge for displaced wildlife, including the terrifying reptile.
Captured on video and shared on TikTok, the moment quickly went viral, amassing millions of views. In the video, one of the family members can be heard exclaiming “Holy s–t” as the alligator bared its teeth from across the kitchen, a scene that left viewers both horrified and amused.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has been issuing warnings about displaced animals in the aftermath of the storm. Floodwaters have driven many species, such as alligators, snakes, and bears, from their habitats into urban areas, including homes. FWC officials have advised residents to exercise extreme caution, especially when returning to flood-damaged properties.
Biologist Christopher Gillette further warned that floodwaters, often contaminated with sewage, pose additional risks, not only from wildlife but from dangerous water conditions. He also noted that animals like alligators can survive submerged for extended periods, making them difficult to spot in floodwaters.
