South Carolina teaching assistant accused of spraying foul odor that damaged school’s AC system

A South Carolina teaching assistant has been arrested after allegedly spraying a substance known as “poop spray” inside a high school, causing students to seek medical attention and leaving the school district with tens of thousands of dollars in damages.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office said Alexander Paul Robertson Lewis, 32, was taken into custody on Friday and charged with disturbing schools and malicious injury to property.

Authorities said Lewis used the spray multiple times at West Florence High School between Aug. 25 and Sept. 19. The product, which can be purchased online, is designed to mimic the odor of feces and has gained popularity on TikTok and social media as part of prank videos.

According to investigators, the spray disrupted classes and caused several students to require medical attention for respiratory issues. The odor also damaged the school’s air-conditioning system, leaving the district with an estimated $55,000 bill for inspection and repairs.

Lewis was booked at the Florence County Detention Center. Authorities confirmed he has since been released.

Incidents involving similar sprays have made headlines before. In 2023, two Texas teenagers were charged after a “fart spray” prank at their school forced evacuations, canceled classes, and sent students to the hospital.
