Taiwan Parents Hire Pole Dancers for Son’s Graduation, Prompting Police Response

A graduation celebration in Taiwan turned heads and sparked outrage after a couple hired pole dancers to perform outside their son’s school.

On June 11, outside Taichung Municipal Wanhe Junior High School, parents of a graduating student arranged a surprise that quickly drew attention — two pole dancers performing a routine on the street just after the school’s graduation ceremony ended.

According to CTITV News, the performance lasted around 20 minutes and featured the dancers climbing onto two jeeps outfitted with poles, where they continued dancing while students and adults looked on. Police were called in to disperse the growing crowd, citing a disturbance to public order.

The graduate, a young boy dressed in his school uniform, appeared visibly embarrassed as he was invited to stand between the two performers. Images and videos of the event quickly circulated online, showing stunned students taking photos and confused parents looking on.

💃 A Mother’s Bold Gift

The boy’s mother, who helped choreograph the routine, told media the performance was sponsored by a friend and was intended to be a creative and unforgettable gift.

“Other parents organised various programmes for the graduation ceremony, so I wanted ours to be more creative than theirs,” she said.

She added, “I hope this will be an unforgettable graduation gift for my son.”

While the boy told media he was shocked and speechless, he acknowledged his parents’ good intentions and chose not to object.

👀 Mixed Reactions from the Crowd

Not everyone was amused. Another parent expressed concern, saying:

“It is not appropriate to hold such a performance in front of the school. They are only secondary school students.”

A school official, speaking anonymously, confirmed that the school had no prior knowledge of the performance and does not endorse such celebrations.

“We will strengthen our educational efforts and encourage parents to celebrate graduations in a more rational manner, avoiding unnecessary expenses,” the official stated.

The dancers left the scene after police intervention, with one reportedly driving the vehicle away.

This incident has drawn significant attention on social media across Taiwan and Asia, with many users criticizing the stunt as inappropriate and tone-deaf, especially in a school setting.
